Just two years ago, in 2018, there was a record low marriage rate in the USA. An article in U.S. News & World Report claims that economic and social shifts were the cause behind it. From 2000 until 2018 the rate was about 7 newly married persons per 1,000. It has never dropped below 6.8 people per thousand. In 2018 the rate was 6.5.
You probably know where I am going with this. 2020 has been the year to break all kinds of records, and not in a good way. This year we are on pace to have a sub 6% newly married rate. The virus known as Covid has kept people out of the courthouses and wedding venues for most of the year. But, people are still getting married, just not as many.
Many couples have simply postponed their weddings to 2021 or 2022 in hopes that a vaccine will be available by then. Odds are, there will be a vaccine by then and weddings can resume as normal.
Love never takes a day off and people will continue to fall in love and get married as long as there is a human race on the planet. That is a reassuring fact in the midst of all this madness.
